JOB OPENING

ACCREDITATION OFFICER

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), an international non-profit forest-management standards and accreditation organization, seeks a dynamic, capable, experienced Accreditation Officer. Based in the organization's headquarters in Oaxaca, Mexico, the Accreditation Officer is responsible for facilitation of services and monitoring of certification bodies.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited university, with a degree in forestry, resource management, social sciences or related discipline required. A Masters degree in a relevant field is preferred
  • Training to the level of ISO 9000 lead auditor or equivalent is preferred
  • Strong forestry and natural resource management knowledge required. Knowledge and experience in other areas such as social sciences preferred
  • Bilingual - English and Spanish- preferred. Knowledge of additional languages is a plus
  • Proven ability to work in a multicultural, interdisciplinary environment
  • Proven interpersonal skills working in and leading teams
  • Strong communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Evaluation of applicant certification bodies and preparation of accreditation reports for consideration by the FSC Board of Directors
  • Monitoring of accredited certification bodies according to FSC procedures
  • Management and follow-up of complaints and grievances in relation to activities by accredited certification bodies
  • Participate in preparation and updating of FSC accreditation policies and protocols
  • Responsible for supervising the work of staff and consultants on projects that relate to FSC accreditation tasks.

Working conditions

  • The position is located in the FSC secretariat, in Oaxaca, Mexico.
  • Travel of up to 30% of the time is expected.
